ZWO AM5N Harmonic Equatorial Mount: 15 kg payload in a 5.5 kg mount
The AM5N is the second generation of the mount that changed mobile astrophotography. Thanks to harmonic drive technology (strainwave gears from robotics), this equatorial mount can carry up to 15 kg without a counterweight, with a dead weight of only 5.5 kg (12.1 lb). With the optional counterweight, the capacity increases to 20 kg.
Every AM5N is individually calibrated by ZWO, with a guaranteed periodic error under 20 arcseconds. Combined with a guide camera like the ASI220MM Mini, you achieve tracking that meets the demands of serious deep-sky photography, night after night.

Harmonic drive: why no counterweight
Classic worm gear mounts require counterweights to balance the load. Strainwave gears deliver their torque backlash-free and directly, allowing the AM5N to simply hold the telescope. This saves kilograms in the transport bag and minutes during setup.
The compact size and low weight make this mount the go-to choice for dark-sky travelers and balcony photographers.

New in the N version
Compared to the first AM5, the payload without counterweight increased from 13 to 15 kg, and the mechanics have been further refined. The mount integrates fully with the ASIAIR for polar alignment, GoTo, guiding, and fully automatic sessions from your phone.
Combine with the TC40 carbon tripod and optionally a PE160 or PE200 pier extension for extra freedom around the zenith.
Featured accessories
- ZWO Tripod TC40 for AM5 / AM3: The Stable Carbon Base
- ZWO PE160 or PE200 Pier Extension: Prevents tripod collisions at low angles
- ZWO Counterweight Bar for AM3 / AM5: recommended towards maximum load capacity
- ZWO ASIAIR Plus: fully automatic operation without a laptop
For whom yes, for whom no
Hello astrophotographers who want to deploy a serious telescope on location without the hassle of counterweights.
Not For those who observe exclusively through a refractor; in that case, the AM3 or an alt-azimuth mount is a better choice.
