Individual measurements with a hand-held meter tell you something about one moment, but not about how the sky behaves over the course of the night. The SQM-LU sky quality meter connects to a computer or laptop via USB, which reads the measurements. This way, you can track the brightness of the night sky for an entire night.
It’s handy if you already have a laptop next to your telescope, for example if you’re star photographer. You can also see how the sky changes behind your shots over the course of the night.
Take into account the length of your USB cable, and place the meter in a weatherproof casing if it will be left outside for an extended period. Because the lens measures a smaller section of the sky in a focused manner, always orient it in the same way.
If you want to measure without a computer nearby, then the SQM-LU-DL with a data logger a better choice. For measurements with a filter there is a filter adapter for SQM-L, LE and LU.
