During a long night, you want the red rings on your Telrad to remain clearly visible until the end. On humid nights, however, the viewing window quickly becomes covered, and then you can only see the rings faintly. The Telrad dew cap plus screens the angled window from dew and stray light, so it cools down less quickly.
The cap is intended for the Telrad red dot finder. Especially on one of the Dobson telescopes The viewfinder tilts up for hours, and just then the window quickly fills up.
Turn on the rain hood at the beginning of the evening, because a window that is already covered won’t clear up on its own. Let the hood dry after use, especially if it got wet in the bag. On very humid evenings, a small heating band can help.
Another version is the Telegizmos dew cap TG-DS for the window.
