Why this combination?
A large telescope captures a lot of light, but unfortunately also a lot of stray light from streetlights and cities. The addition of two specific filters in this set transforms the viewing experience:
- The UHC (Ultra High Contrast) filter: This is the 'workhorse' for deep-sky. It blocks the wavelengths of artificial light while allowing the important emission lines of nebulae to pass through. The result is a darker background, making faint nebulae and galaxies suddenly stand out more.
- The OIII filter (Oxygen-III): This is a specialized narrow-band filter. It allows almost only the light from ionized oxygen to pass through. For objects like the M42 Orion Nebula or the impressive Veil Nebula, you will actually see more detail with this filter!
Stable Dobson mount, excellent optics
The 200mm (8 inch) mirror provides razor-sharp images without the aberrations found in cheaper spherical mirrors. Thanks to the smooth Crayford focuser, you can achieve extremely precise focusing, which is essential when working with contrast filters.
