TeleVue Gibraltar HD5 Alt-AZ: Altazimuth Mount: heavy-duty altazimuth for the 5-inch NP127is

The Gibraltar HD5 is the heaviest mount in the lineup, built around a head that is an inch wider than the Tele-Pod version, featuring larger bearings and cradle holes that directly accept the NP127 baseplate.

The same heavy ash wood tripod as the HD4, the same leg extension up to about 1.5 meters, but with the load capacity for the largest TeleVue refractor.

The TeleVue Philosophy: Alt-Azimuth Without Electronics

TeleVue builds its mounts around a simple idea: grab, point, look. No polar alignment, no power, no menus. You push the telescope to your target, and friction holds it there.

The friction of the bearings is adjustable per axis, so tracking at high magnification is done with a fingertip. For visual observation with a refractor, this is the fastest route from the front door to the first object.

Why a wooden tripod

The ash wood tripod legs aren’t just a nostalgic touch: wood dampens vibrations faster than aluminum or steel. After a tap against the tube, the image stabilizes more quickly, and you’ll notice that every night, especially at high magnification merk.

The triangular wooden accessory shelf connects the legs and stiffens the whole unit; the metal ground stakes with rubber caps are stable on both grass and tiles.

The heading for the 5-inch size

The wider head and larger bearing surfaces are not there just for show: at 250x magnification, an NP127is magnifies every weakness in the mount. The HD5 keeps the image steady and tracking smooth.

In addition to the NP127 base plate, the cradle also accommodates all smaller Tele Vue tubes, so the mount does not outgrow your equipment range.
