ZWO ASI294MC Color: the large color sensor, light and mobile

The ASI294MC features the popular 4/3-inch Sony IMX294 sensor without cooling—and therefore without a power supply, extra weight, or cables. With 4,144 x 2,822 pixels measuring 4.63 micrometers each, a full well of 63,700 electrons, and a quantum efficiency of over 751 TP9T, you can capture surprisingly deep deep-sky images using short exposures and stacking.

In HCG mode (from gain 120), the readout noise drops below 2 electrons, making exposures of 30 to 60 seconds yield usable signals even without a cooled sensor.

Mobile and immediately deployable

Without a heat sink, the camera weighs very little and operates on a single USB cable: ideal for travel setups, short sessions, and anyone who wants to keep the entry into serious deep-sky photography accessible.

The 4/3 image field (23.2 mm diagonal) captures complete nebula fields and pairs well with apochromats and corrected Newtonians.

Also for the moon and live observing

With 16 frames per second at full resolution, lunar overviews and electronically assisted astronomy (live stacking) are well possible.

Those who later progress to long exposures choose the Pro version with TEC cooling; the rest of the setup remains the same.

Not If you systematically plan long narrowband exposures, the Pro with cooling is the better foundation.

The ASI294MC is the mobile route to the large field of view of ZWO. Growth is always possible: the Pro version uses the same sensor with cooling.
