TeleVue Starbeam: LED Finderscope: LED finder with projection window

The TeleVue Starbeam is the LED finder in its most luxurious form: a machined aluminum housing, a large projection window, and a continuously adjustable red dot. This version comes with the TeleVue accessory shoe and a matching dovetail rail.

This makes it the version for refractors and for any tube on which you can mount the shoe; the finder slides in and out without losing alignment.

Aim with both eyes open

The Starbeam projects a red dot onto a large, bright window. You look through it with both eyes at the actual sky and align the dot with your target: where the dot is, the telescope points.

The window is significantly larger than with conventional red-dot sights, and the viewing is flexible: the dot remains visible even from an angle. The brightness is continuously adjustable to a level that preserves your dark adaptation, and the flip cover protects the optics when the sight is not in use.

Why a

An optical viewfinder magnifies and mirrors; you have to learn to think differently. A dot in the real sky asks for nothing: you see the constellation as on the map and place the dot in the right spot.

Combined with a low-power wide-field eyepiece, that's the fastest way of star-hopping for most observers, even without GoTo.

This version: with accessory shoe and rail

The quick-release shoe is mounted firmly on the tube, the rail is under the Starbeam. Placement and removal are a matter of sliding and a clamping screw.

With a second shoe on another telescope, you switch a single Starbeam between instruments, each time without re-aligning.
