TeleVue Panoptic 24mm: 1.25" Eyepiece: Panoptic eyepiece with 68-degree field of view
The 24 mm Panoptic has a field stop of 27 mm, thereby utilizing the absolute maximum of the 1.25-inch barrel size. A larger true field of view than this does not exist in this format; a 32 mm Plössl shows the same piece of sky, but at a lower magnification and therefore a brighter sky background.
That makes this the survey eyepiece for anyone with a 1.25-inch focuser, and the firm favorite for binoviewers: light, compact, and easy to match as a pair.

Why 68 degrees
The Panoptic series is TeleVue's answer to the demand for a wide field without the weight and price of the 82- and 100-degree designs. The 6-element design also corrects the edge of the field in fast telescopes, providing a flat image all the way to the field stop.
The name is a portmanteau of panoramic and optics. In practice, 68 degrees is the point where the field feels spacious while the eyepiece remains light and compact.
The maximum field in 1.25 inch
Anyone who doesn't have a 2-inch focuser gets the largest possible piece of the sky with this eyepiece. The magnification is higher than with a 32 mm Plössl with the same field stop, which keeps the background darker and makes faint objects stand out better.
In a binoviewer, the low weight of about 235 grams each is a practical advantage: two Panoptics place less load on the focuser than virtually any other wide-angle combination.
In your telescope
In a telescope with a 1200 mm brand focal length, this eyepiece provides approximately 50x magnification with a true field of view of about 1.29 degrees. For your own telescope: true field of view = 57.3 × field stop divided by the telescope’s brand focal length.
The effective field stop of this model is 27.0 mm.
Included
- Foldable rubber eyecup
- Dust caps
- Filter thread abandoned
Featured accessories
The Panoptics work together with the TeleVue barlows and Powermates, so that a single eyepiece delivers two magnifications. Models with 15 mm eye relief or more accept the Dioptrx astigmatism corrector. With a fast Newtonian, the Paracorr ensures point-like stars to the edge of the 68-degree field.
