De Sky-Watcher Mercury-607 is een achromatische refractor van 60/700 mm (f/11,7) op een azimutale AZ-2 montering. De lange, trage lens geeft een rustig en verrassend scherp beeld op maan en planeten, en het rechtopstaande diagonaal maakt hem overdag ook een natuurkijker. Compleet met twee oculairs en barlowlens.

What do you see through this telescope?

The moon is the main stage: craters, mountain ranges, and the play of shadow along the terminator are different every night. Jupiter shows its four large moons, Saturn reveals its rings, and Venus its phases. Bright star clusters like the Pleiades round out the program. Don't expect faint nebulae: those require more aperture, and that's appropriate for this price point.

Waarom een lange lens goed werkt

Bij f/11,7 zijn kleurfouten minimaal en zijn eenvoudige oculairs op hun best: het beeld blijft rustig en contrastrijk, precies wat maan en planeten vragen. Geen afkoeltijd, geen spiegels uitlijnen: een refractor is de meest zorgeloze start die er is.

This is how to get the most out of this telescope

• Start with the lowest power eyepiece (the largest number): first find, then enlarge.
• Magnification: 25 mm geeft 28x, 10 mm geeft 70x; de barlow werkt het best in combinatie met het 25 mm oculair (56x).
• Never look directly at the sun without protection., not even for a moment: only with a certified solar filter on the front.
