Omegon Cronus WA 4 mm Eyepiece (1.25 inch): Wide-angle eyepiece with 60-degree field of view

The Omegon Cronus WA 4 mm is a wide-angle eyepiece with a 60-degree field of view and a 16mm eye relief. A commonly used focal length for planetary observations with small and medium-sized telescopes.

The Cronus series is the affordable entry into wide-field eyepieces: you see about 20 percent more field of view than with a standard Plossl, without a tunnel effect. Objects stay in view longer, which is especially nice with telescopes without a tracking motor.

Comfortable viewing, even with glasses

The 16mm eye relief is generous for this price range. Your eye doesn't need to be exactly on the optical axis to see a full field of view, virtually eliminating black vignetting. Those who wear glasses can observe with them on.

The rotating eyepiece can be adjusted to your preferred distance. Useful if multiple people are looking through the same telescope.

Six-element optics with multi-coating

The six-element lens design features multi-layer coating on all air-to-glass surfaces. This increases light transmission and keeps reflections low, for a high-contrast image with a dark background.

The 1.25-inch barrel has standard filter threads, so you can screw a moon filter or color filter directly under the eyepiece.

What do you see with 4 mm?

On a 130/900 Newtonian, 4mm provides a magnification of 225x, and on a 90/600 refractor, 150x. With this, you can clearly see Saturn's rings separated from the planet's disk.

The polar ice cap of Mars around opposition and the four Galilean moons as sharp points next to Jupiter also come within range.

Featured accessories

All Cronus eyepieces share the same field of view and eye relief, making it comfortable to switch focal lengths. Combine with an Omegon Moon Filter (1.25 inch) to dim the bright lunar image, or with an Omegon Barlow lens for extra magnification at longer focal lengths.

For whom yes and for whom no

  • ✓ Beginners and advanced users who want a wider field of view than a Plössl offers
  • ✓ Spectacle wearers, thanks to the 16 mm interpupillary distance
  • ✓ Telescopes without tracking motors: objects stay in view longer
  • For those seeking a flat field of view all the way to the edge, the Omegon Flatfield series is better suited.
  • ✗ Smart telescopes without interchangeable eyepieces
