Omegon Camera veLOX 678 C Color: 4K planetary camera with the largest veLOX sensor

The veLOX 678 C has the largest sensor and the finest pixels in the series. With 3840 x 2160 pixels of 2.0 micrometers on a 7.7 by 4.3 mm sensor, you capture the Moon in high resolution without having to mosaic.

For planets, fine pixels mean that you get more pixels on the disk at a given focal length. Combined with stacking software, you can extract a lot of detail from that.

Sensor and image

The Sony IMX678 measures 7.7 by 4.3 mm with a diagonal of 8.8 mm. The camera reads out at 12 bits and achieves 47 frames per second at full 4K resolution via USB 3.0.

With the region of interest function, you limit the readout to the area around the planet. As a result, the frame rate increases significantly.

Moon in view all at once

The 8.8 mm sensor diagonal is generous for a planetary camera. At a medium-long focal length, a large part of the lunar disk fits into a single image.

That saves time during recording and work in post-processing, because you have to stitch fewer partial images together.

Autoguiding with an ST4 port

The camera has a built-in ST4 port. You connect it directly to the autoguider port of your mount and correct the tracking during long exposures. The wide field of view makes finding a guide star easy.

PHD2 recognizes the camera natively. It also works with N.I.N.A., SharpCap, and similar programs via the ASCOM and INDI drivers.

Connect to your telescope

The housing has the shape and diameter of a 1.25-inch eyepiece. So you can slide the camera into almost any focuser. The flange distance is 12.5 mm; with the included extension tube, it becomes 17.5 mm.

C- and CS-mount thread with 1.25-inch filter thread via the included adapter.

Included

  • Camera in anodized aluminum housing
  • Adapter with 1.25 inch filter thread (C-mount to M28.5)
  • Extension piece with flange distance 17.5 mm
  • USB cable
  • ST4 cable

Featured accessories

An atmospheric dispersion corrector keeps planet colors sharp at low altitudes. A Barlow adjusts the image scale to match the fine pixels.
