iOptron 178M Camera iCam: monochrome planetary camera with IMX178
The iCam 178M is iOpteron's monochrome planetary camera built around the Sony IMX178 sensor: 6.4 megapixels on a 1/1.8-inch imaging plane with 2.4 µm pixels. Those fine pixels capture the smallest structures on the Moon and planets, even at shorter focal lengths brand.
Via USB 3.0, the camera achieves up to 60 frames per second at full resolution. This allows you to collect thousands of frames in a short time to stack the sharpest moments of the seeing.

Low noise, clean frames
Readout noise drops to approximately 1.34e; the HCG (High Conversion Gain) mode automatically engages from gain 30 and further suppresses noise without sacrificing dynamic range.
Dead Pixel Suppression (DPS) technology identifies defective pixels using dark frames and suppresses them, keeping your stacks clean.
Monochrome as a quality choice
A monochrome sensor uses every pixel fully, without a Bayer matrix. Using separate LRGB or narrowband filters, you can build color images with maximum resolution and sensitivity, from planets to bright deep-sky objects.
Included
- iCam 178M camera
- USB cable
Featured accessories
Combine the 178M with the iOptron LRGB filter set and the iEFW filter wheel for full-resolution color imaging.
For whom yes and for whom no
- ✓ Planetary and lunar photographers who want maximum resolution and sensitivity
- ✓ Who wants to build images with LRGB or narrowband filters
- ✗ If you want to shoot directly in color without filters: choose the 462C or 464C
