If you build your own telescope with a square tube or a flat plate in a frame construction, then a regular curved focus base will not fit. This flat mounting base for a 2 inch focus lens from Starlight Instruments, the maker of the Feather Touch focusers, is specifically designed for a flat surface.
As a leveling base, it is intended to place the focus lens perpendicular to the optical axis. Check beforehand whether the base fits the focus lens you want to use. You can find loose models at Focusers for telescopes.
Measure the space on your telescope and take the time to align it. A focus lens that is crooked will, especially when photographing the night sky, give us blurred stars on one side of the image.
If you have a round Newton tube, then an adjustable curved focus base the better choice. For a 3 inch focuser there is a flat base with screw-in brackets.
