Omegon Brightsky 90° Binoculars 22x70 + Case: future-proof entry into the top class, complete with case

The Omegon Brightsky 22×70 with 90-degree viewing angle is a large astronomical binoculars featuring interchangeable 1.25-inch eyepieces, a magnesium housing, and nitrogen purging. This version comes in the matching hard case, allowing you to transport it safely right away.

With a 70 mm aperture and 22x magnification, this is the model where most observers in this line start: light enough for a standard fork mount, with a field of view ample enough for star fields and comets.

70 mm at 22x: overview with detail

Two 70 mm objective lenses together capture well over twice as much light as a single 70 mm binoculars, and your brain combines both images into a calmer and deeper overall image. At 22x magnification, you can see Jupiter's moons, the phases of Venus, and the larger globular clusters as grainy clouds.

The actual field of view of 3.3 degrees is wide: the entire Pleiades fit in it, just like the Andromeda Galaxy with its companions. During the day, that means a width of 57 meters at a distance of one kilometer.

90-degree viewing angle for the zenith

With a 90-degree viewing angle, you look into the eyepieces from above, just like with a refractor with a star diagonal. Objects directly overhead, where the sky is darkest and most transparent, can be viewed without straining your neck. That is why most astronomical users choose this variant.

For observations low on the horizon, the 90-degree position is less convenient: you then stand bent forward. For predominantly daytime observation, the 45-degree version makes more sense.

Fully multicoated achromatic optics

The objectives and prisms are fully multi-coated. This keeps light transmission high and suppresses internal reflections that affect contrast in bright objects. At this price, you get the aperture and interchangeable eyepiece concept of the top class, without the extra cost of ED glass.

Near the moon's limb and bright stars, a slight color fringe is visible, which is normal for an achromat of this aperture. Anyone who finds this distracting can choose the ED-APO version of the same model.

Interchangeable eyepieces and filter thread

By default, two 18 mm flatfield eyepieces with a 65-degree apparent field of view are included. They are 1.25 inches, so you can replace them with any pair of eyepieces from your telescope case. For example, two 10 mm eyepieces provide a higher magnification for the moon and planets.

Both eyepiece holders have 1.25-inch filter threads. A pair of UHC filters enhances the contrast of nebulae from a light-polluted environment. Each tube has its own focusing mechanism, allowing you to precisely adjust the viewer to your eyes.

Mounting a tripod

At 3.9 kg, this is not a binocular you use handheld. On a sturdy photography tripod head it works, but a fork mount like the Omegon Pro Neptune works better: it supports up to 9 kg, allows the binoculars to move freely from the horizon to the zenith, and keeps the image steady at 22x.

Include the mount and tripod in your budget. A telescope in this class is unusable with too light a tripod, and we prefer to say that before the purchase rather than after the first evening.

Included hard case

This version comes in the matching Omegon hard case with custom foam inlay. Two locks, a sturdy handle, and an impact-resistant exterior protect the optics in the car and in the attic. Purchased separately, the case costs considerably more than the price difference compared to the bare telescope.

Included

  • 90-degree viewing binoculars
  • Two 18 mm flatfield eyepieces, 1.25 inch, 65 degrees
  • Foldable eyepieces and objective lens caps
  • Handle and 1/4 and 3/8 inch tripod mount on the bottom
  • Hard case with custom foam inlay

Featured accessories

The case is included; what is still missing is the mount. We recommend the Omegon Pro Neptune fork mount with the Omegon Pro carbon tripod 40 mm. For deep-sky from a light-polluted environment: two Omegon Pro UHC nebula filters 1.25 inch.

For whom yes and for whom no

  • ✓ Deep-sky with two eyes: star clusters, bright nebulae, the Milky Way
  • ✓ Observers who already own 1.25-inch eyepieces and filters
  • ✓ For those who want an instrument for years to come, with room to grow in magnification
  • Handheld or on a light photo tripod: too heavy, too much magnification
  • ✗ Traveling with limited luggage space; for this, a 10×50 is more suitable
  • ✗ If you are looking mainly low on the horizon, choose 45 degrees
