80 mm H-alpha: Resolving power for the serious solar observer
The Lunt LS80MT B1200 Rack & Pinion is built for advanced observers and solar photographers who want to see structure on the sun that smaller apertures cannot show. The fully unobstructed 80mm optics with FPL-53 ED glass combine high resolving power with a bandwidth of less than 0.7 Angstroms: prominences with layered edge details, filaments, plages, and spicule fields in high sharpness.
B1200-blockfilter: visually strong, photographically capable
The B1200 blocking filter offers 12mm of free aperture in a 1.25-inch eyepiece holder zenith mirror with a T2 connection. This is generous for visual observation, and also for photography with planetary cameras and smaller sensors. If you want to work with an APS-C sensor or binoviewer, the larger B1800 blocking filter is the logical upgrade; you'll find it below as an addition.
Pressure-Tuner and stable focuser
The Pressure-Tuner tunes the etalon via pressure control: precisely over the H-alpha line, uniform from edge to edge, and without wear. The 2-inch rack-and-pinion focuser with 1:10 fine adjustment also supports heavier camera setups without slumping or play.
Modular: From Solar Telescope to 80mm ED Refractor
Just like the smaller LS60MT from the same MT series, the LS80MT is fully modular. Remove the prism from the tube, and you're left with an 80mm f/7 ED refractor featuring FPL-53 glass for the Moon, planets, and bright deep-sky objects. One instrument for round-the-clock observation, complete with tube rings, a handle, extension tubes, and a carrying case.

An H-alpha solar telescope is safe for solar observation due to its closed filter system. Check the etalon and blocking filter for damage before each use. Never look at the sun through an ordinary telescope, binoculars, or finder without a certified solar filter on the objective end.
