iOptron GEM28EC Mounting LiteRoc: German precision mounting with RA encoder

The iOptron GEM28 is a classic German equatorial GoTo mount with a payload capacity of 28 lbs (12.7 kg), excluding counterweights, at a weight of only 10 lbs (4.5 kg). Its latitude range of 10 to 70 degrees makes it suitable for all of Europe.

The EC version adds a high-resolution encoder to the right-hand climbing axis. It measures the axis motion continuously and corrects the periodic error in real time to less than 0.3 arcseconds RMS.

For short and medium focal lengths shots, you often shoot without auto guidance, with tight stars in long, unattended exposures. The built-in iPolar and the LiteRoc tripod complete the set.

Real-time error correction with the RA encoder

Where a standard setup on PEC training relies on it, the GEM28EC corrects the error directly during tracking. That saves time, cables, and a guiding camera.

For maximum precision over long brandrange points, the ST-4 port remains available for classic car guidance.

GoTo with 212,000 objects

The Go2Nova 8409 hand controller contains a database of over 212,000 objects. After alignment, the mount automatically slews to planets, nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies, keeping them precisely in view.

Via the built-in WiFi, you can also control the mount with iOptron Commander or planetarium software; ASCOM support enables full computer control. An ST-4 port is ready for autoguiding.

Smooth and precise mechanics

Stepper motors with belt drive move both axes smoothly and evenly. The periodic error remains below plus or minus 10 arcseconds and can be further reduced with recordable PPEC.

The gear couplings lock with a positive click and can also be operated with gloves. The Vixen saddle accepts dovetail rails as standard.
