The iOptron GEM28 is a classic German equatorial GoTo mount with a payload capacity of 28 lbs (12.7 kg), excluding counterweights, at a weight of only 10 lbs (4.5 kg). Its latitude range of 10 to 70 degrees makes it suitable for all of Europe.

This mount combines with the illuminated AccuAlign optical polar scope and the 1.5-inch stainless steel tripod: a complete setup for visual observation and astrophotography.

The Vixen saddle accepts refractors up to approximately 5 inches, compact astrographs, and Newtonians with standard dovetail mounts.

GoTo with 212,000 objects

The Go2Nova 8409 hand controller contains a database of over 212,000 objects. After alignment, the mount automatically slews to planets, nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies, keeping them precisely in view.

Via the built-in WiFi, you can also control the mount with iOptron Commander or planetarium software; ASCOM support enables full computer control. An ST-4 port is ready for autoguiding.

Smooth and precise mechanics

Stepper motors with belt drive move both axes smoothly and evenly. The periodic error remains below plus or minus 10 arcseconds and can be further reduced with recordable PPEC.

The gear couplings lock with a positive click and can also be operated with gloves. The Vixen saddle accepts dovetail rails as standard.

Classic German design

The GEM mounting works well in our northern latitudes and feels immediately familiar to anyone who has worked with an EQ mount before.

The device operates on 12 V DC. For field use, a 12 V cable for the car battery is a practical addition.
