The Bresser Messier 127/1900 EXOS-2 combines the esteemed 127 mm Maksutov optics with the heavier EXOS-2 mount. Detail and stability come together here: at 200x, Jupiter appears calm and rich in contrast.

Maksutov optics: high contrast, no maintenance

The Maksutov design folds a 1900 mm focal length into a short, closed tube. The meniscus lens corrects the mirror almost completely: no chromatic aberration and a small central obstruction, resulting in high contrast. The 127 mm aperture with the included 26 mm eyepiece provides 73x magnification; consider around 254x as the maximum (f/15). Collimation is rarely needed, and the optics are virtually maintenance-free. Allow for 30 to 45 minutes of cool-down time: the closed tube needs to reach ambient temperature for the sharpest image.

The EXOS-2 mount

The EXOS-2 is a German equatorial mount of the EQ-5 class with a payload capacity of up to 13 kg. With the polar scope you align quickly and with the slow-motion cables you track objects smoothly. Later expandable with a motor set or the StarTracker GoTo system.
