Online astrophotography course

You have a Seestar, the first photos have been taken and now you want more: sharper images, longer exposures with EQ mode, understanding what all those settings in the app do. For that, we refer you to the video courses by Wido Oerlemans, astrophotographer from Utrecht and creator of the YouTube channel Wido's AstroForum. You follow them at home, at your own pace and as often as you like.

The courses are in English, but don't let that put you off. Wido speaks calmly and shows everything on the screen, so high school English will get you a long way. Why we recommend these courses

Wido photographs from his roof in the middle of Utrecht, with the glow of the city above him and streetlights all around. Exactly the sky that most of our customers also have to deal with. When he demonstrates in a lesson how you can still capture a sharp photo of the Andromeda Galaxy from such a location, you know you can succeed at home too. Manufacturers like ZWO and Dwarflab send him their new models even before the release, so his lessons are always in sync with the latest firmware and app versions.

We have known Wido’s videos for years and have been sending customers who want to get started with their Seestar his way for some time. There is one thing you won't find in the courses: advice on which telescope suits you. For that, you just give us a call.

What courses are available?

Two courses, one membership. For 3 euros a month, you become a member of Wido's YouTube channel and can immediately watch all lessons from both courses. No contract and no cancellation period: when you are done learning, you cancel. If a firmware update or a new model comes out, Wido simply records new lessons for it. They are all included, for the same 3 euros.

Who is this nothing for?

Don't have a Seestar and prefer looking through an eyepiece rather than taking photographs? Then these courses won't be of much use to you. Take a look in our knowledge center or call us for advice. Do you have a Dwarf? Then wait just a bit longer, those lessons are coming soon. Do you exclusively want Dutch-language explanations? That is not available just yet; however, with every Sky-Watcher telescope, you will receive our Dutch Handbook for Stargazers.

Who is Wido Oerlemans?

Wido has been photographing the night sky from Utrecht for years. On his YouTube channel Wido's AstroForum (over 56,000 subscribers) he tests smart telescopes and explains how to get the most out of them. His review of the Seestar S30 Pro and are step-by-step explanation of the EQ mode provide a good idea of how it works. We work with Wido because he gets the same questions as we do, and answers them better than a manual.

What do you need.

For the Seestar course: a Seestar and a phone or tablet with the Seestar app. For the EQ lessons, you also need the EQ polar wedge needed.

For the astronomy course: a telescope with a long focal length on a motorized mount, and a planetary camera. A Skymax-127 paired with an ASI662MC or ASI678MC is a setup that Wido himself uses in his classes.
