ZWO ASI662MC: The Ideal Entry into Planetary Astrophotography
The ASI662MC is the camera to start with for planetary photography. The modern Sony IMX662 sensor (1/2.8 inch, back-illuminated) combines 1920 x 1080 pixels of 2.9 micrometers with read noise starting at 0.8 electrons and completely glow-free captures, even at exposures up to 2000 seconds.
With 107 images per second in RAW8, you gather the thousands of frames that lucky imaging requires in minutes. This is how stacking software distills razor-sharp images of Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, and the Moon from atmospheric turbulence.






Modern sensor design
The back-illuminated technology captures more light per pixel than older sensors, and the amp glow that previously marred night shots is completely gone. This makes the camera usable not only for planets but also for compact deep-sky targets like planetary nebulae and globular clusters.
Infrared recordings are also among the possibilities: the sensor remains sensitive above 850 nm, which is convenient for moderate seeing conditions.

Straight to work
USB 3.0 ensures stable transfer at high frame rates, the ST-4 port also makes the camera usable as an autoguider, and at 126 grams, it doesn't burden any setup.
On a typical planetary setup around f/15 to f/20, the 2.9-micrometer pixels sample the image just right for maximum detail.
