The Delos 6 mm is a classic planet brandeyepiece. On a telescope with a 1200 mm brandeyepiece, it delivers 200x magnification, an increase that remains useful on many evenings.

The difference with a simple planetocular lens is in the edge sharpness and color neutrality. The Delos series is built on the same principles as the Ethos, only with a narrower field of view and a wider viewing distance.

72 degrees with a long eye relief

The Delos series is designed as a narrower Ethos field of view with more space behind the eyepiece. By keeping the field of view at 72 degrees, TeleVue was able to bring the eye relief to 20mm without the eyepiece becoming unmanageably large.

For eyeglass wearers, that's the difference between seeing the full field of vision and missing a part of it. Even without glasses, you're looking more relaxed because your eye doesn't have to push against the lens.

Why color neutrality matters

When observing planets, you work with subtle color differences: the bands of Jupiter, the color tinge of Mars, the shades in a lunar crater at low solar altitude. An ocular that shifts color costs you exactly that detail.

The glass-matched coatings keep the color rendering neutral throughout the field, even at the edge where simpler designs show color on the sides.

Interpupillary distance and adjustable eyecup

The eyecup is steplessly adjustable in height and lockable in any position, with index markings so you can find a previously found position. This ensures your eye's pupil is always in the same position relative to the telescope's exit pupil.

That's more than comfort. A misplaced eye causes edge discoloration and shadows in the image. With a fixed, repeatable eye position, that problem is gone, even during long sessions.

In your telescope

In a telescope with a 1200 mm focal length, this eyepiece provides approximately 200x with a true field of view of approximately 0.36 degrees. For your own telescope, you can calculate this using the field stop: where field of view = 57.3 x field stop divided by the telescope's focal length.

The effective field of view of this model is 7.6 mm. That number determines how much of the sky you actually see, not just the focal length alone.
