The DeLite 4 mm delivers high planetary magnification in a compact 1.25-inch housing. The 20 mm eye relief is exceptional for this focal length.

The DeLite series is designed as a compact version of the Delos: the same principle of a long eye relief, but with a 62-degree field of view and a smaller housing. This makes the series suitable for mounts and binoviewers where weight is a factor.

62 degrees with a long eye relief

The DeLite series is designed as a narrower Ethos field of view with more eye relief. By keeping the apparent field of view at 62 degrees, TeleVue was able to bring the eye relief to 20mm without making the eyepiece unmanageably large.

For eyeglass wearers, that's the difference between seeing the full field of vision and missing a part of it. Even without glasses, you're looking more relaxed because your eye doesn't have to push against the lens.

Compact and light

Because the field of view remains at 62 degrees, TeleVue was able to keep the eyepiece small and lightweight. On a mount that supports little weight, or in a binoviewer where two eyepieces are used simultaneously, that is a real advantage.

Furthermore, the weight remains the same across the entire series, so you do not have to re-balance every time you change eyepieces.

Interpupillary distance and adjustable eyecup

The eyecup is steplessly adjustable in height and lockable in any position, with index markings so you can find a previously found position. This ensures your eye's pupil is always in the same position relative to the telescope's exit pupil.

That's more than comfort. A misplaced eye causes edge discoloration and shadows in the image. With a fixed, repeatable eye position, that problem is gone, even during long sessions.

In your telescope

In a telescope with a 1200 mm focal length, this eyepiece yields approximately 300x with a true field of view of about 0.21 degrees. For your own telescope, you calculate this using the field stop: true field of view = 57.3 x field stop divided by the focal length of the telescope.

The effective field stop of this model is 4.3 mm. That figure determines how much sky you actually see, not the focal length alone.
