Second-hand Sky-Watcher Heritage-100P

This is a used Sky-Watcher Heritage-100P: a tabletop Dobson telescope with a 100 mm parabolic mirror and a brandfocal length of 400 mm (f/4). We inspected this model in our own workshop before it went on sale. Optically, it is the same telescope as the new one; what differs about this model can be read below.

Condition of this specimen

  • State: good
  • Origin: Return shipment
  • Reviewed: mirrors checked and calibrated, focus and viewfinder tested
  • Use marks and deviations: damage in the wood of the base, only cosmetic; functionally merk you don’t notice it. See the photos.

What do you see through the Heritage 100P?

Thanks to the short brandfocal length, you see a wide field of view, which makes finding objects easy. The moon is full of craters; on Jupiter you can see the bands of clouds and the four large moons; and the rings of Saturn are clearly visible apart from the planet itself. Large targets like the Pleiades and the Orion Nebula can be seen in their entirety.

This is how to get the most out of this telescope

  • Check the collimation after unpacking. A f/4 mirror merkhas a slight shift during transport immediately. In our guide on collimation Read how to check that in a few minutes.
  • Use the Barlow with caution. With the 10 mm eyepiece and the barlow lens, you can see at 80x; higher magnification rarely yields more detail at this mirror size.
  • Place the tube on a photo tripod If you want to stand higher or more freely: it clicks off the wooden base.

For whom yes and for whom no
