How do the planets actually orbit the Sun? That’s hard to explain with just a picture. This solar system model for children by Buki actually shows the planets orbiting a sun. The sun is a light bulb, so you can also see how the planets move around it in a dark room.
The standing model runs on batteries. Place it in a sturdy, flat place so that it can rotate quietly. You can find more things to learn about the space while playing with it at educational toy.
Use the model to learn together the order of the planets and talk about how large they are compared to each other. In real life, Jupiter is more than eleven times as wide as Earth, and such proportions never fit exactly into a model. What you can see of Jupiter itself, you can read in our guide about Jupiter.
To also recognize the planets in the sky afterwards, there is the Astroset Moon and planets by Rob Walrecht.
