The Baader ASSF 50 is a ready-to-use solar filter from the ASSF series (AstroSolar Spotting Scope Filter). This series is specially made for spotting scopes, telephoto lenses, and smaller telescopes. You attach the filter to the front of your optics using three adjustable clamping bolts with a rubber profile, ensuring it stays firmly in place and cannot slip or blow off.
This is the newest ClearWhite version featuring the original Baader AstroSolar ClearWhite Safety film (OD 5.1). Compared to the previous OD 5.0 film, ClearWhite provides an even brighter, whiter solar image with a slightly higher optical density. The filter attenuates sunlight by a factor of approximately 125,000 and complies with the transmission requirements of EN ISO 12312-2:2015 for direct solar observation. Sunspots, granulation, and fine structures in the photosphere are rendered sharply and with high contrast.
The film is only 0.012 mm thick, coated on both sides, and free of streaks and air bubbles. This achieves an optical quality comparable to high-grade plane-parallel glass filters. The filter is equally suitable for visual observation and solar photography: the exposure times remain short enough for sharp single shots or lucky imaging, and looking through your camera's viewfinder is also safe.
This size has a clear aperture of 50 mm and fits tubes, dew shields, and lens barrels with an outer diameter of 40 to 60 mm. Before ordering, please measure the outer diameter of your telescope tube, dew shield, or objective to ensure you choose the right size.
Included: three adjustable centering bolts, three safety straps with stickers, screws, washers, and an installation manual.
