Cooled astronomical cameras do not draw their sensor cooling power from the USB cable; they require a separate 12 V power supply. This adapter delivers that power from the mains, featuring the 5.5 x 2.1 mm plug that fits virtually all cooled cameras.
The 3 A is matched to what a camera cooling system draws at full power. This keeps the sensor at temperature, even on warm evenings when the cooling has to work hard.
