Omegon Oberon 15 mm eyepiece 82° (1.25 inch): 82-degree field of view with spacewalk effect

The Omegon Oberon 15 mm is an ultra-wide-angle ocular with a field of view of 82 degrees. At that point, the edges disappear from your view: the familiar spacewalk effect, as if you were freely exploring space.

The housing is waterproof and filled with nitrogen. Dew and moisture, the permanent companions of Dutch observation nights, have no chance to cause internal fogging.

82 degrees: the spacewalk effect

With an 82-degree apparent field of view, the edge of the field lies outside your direct field of view. Objects float in a star field instead of inside a circle. On a Dobson without a tracking motor, it also means maximum tracking time before you need to readjust.

Built for humid nights

The waterproof, nitrogen-filled construction prevents internal condensation and keeps dust out. The multi-layer coating on all air-glass surfaces keeps contrast high, and the fold-down eyecup can be adjusted to your viewing distance.

The 1.25 inch fitting has filter thread for moon and nevafilters.

What do you see with 15 mm?

At a 150/750 Newton, 15 mm gives a magnification of 50x, at a 200/1200 Dobson 80x. With 82 degrees, that yields well over an and a half degrees of actual field of view on the Newton: the Pleiades fit in almost entirely.

The Orion Nebula and its surroundings, as well as larger open star clusters, also come into their own here.

Featured accessories

The Oberon series ranges from 7 to 32 mm: the short brand tips are 1.25 inches, and the long ones are 2 inches. An Omegon moon filter or nebula filter screws directly into the filter thread.
