If you use a reducer or a camera with a large sensor, you often see dark edges in your photos. With flat frames, you eliminate that vignetting, and the DayStar flat cap FC100 helps you with that. You place it in front of the opening of your telescope and take shots of a uniformly illuminated flat surface, which allows you to remove the dust from filters or the sensor in your astro photos using software as well.
Flat caps come in different sizes. Measure the outer diameter of your tube or shower cap and compare it with the specified size before ordering. A different size in the same series is the flat cap FC104.
Make your shots immediately after your recording session, without changing the focus or the camera position, otherwise the effects won’t match your shots anymore. Any changes in your lens, such as another field worker, asks for a new set of flats. If you want to learn more about recording and editing, check out our astrophotography course.
