Color images of nebulae like those seen with the Hubble telescope are not created with a single filter. This Askar narrowband filter set from the Colour Magic series consists of three filters with a 3 nm diameter: H-alpha for hydrogen, SII for sulfur, and OIII for oxygen. Each filter only allows through the light of one emission line.
With a monochrome camera, you take a series of shots per filter and combine them into a single color image in the Hubble Palette (SHO). A five-position filter wheel For 2 inch filters, switching between the three makes it a lot easier.
Check beforehand whether your filter wheel or filter tray accepts 2 inch filters. With a very powerful telescope, such as some telescopes for astrophotography, It is good to check whether 3 nm filters are suitable for this purpose.
These are night sky filters, not solar filters. Never use them to look at the sun or to photograph the sun. You should only look at the sun using a complete setup that is made for that purpose, as explained in our guide on sunscreens.
