If you want to see details from a dyke or viewpoint that are really far away, you need more than the usual 8x magnification. The Vixen Apex II 12×30 magnifies 12 times with 30 mm lenses, in a compact size.
Think of birds on the other side of a pond or a mountain slope in the distance. The fledging chick is 2.5 mm long, so it is mainly active during the day. You can find other compact models at binoculars for hiking and travel.
With 12x you can see every movement of your hands. Lean against something, or set the viewer on a tripod if they have a mount for that, for example with a tripod adapter with quick-release coupling. The field of view is smaller than with 8x, so first look for your subject with the naked eye and then slowly bring the viewfinder to your eyes.
If you want to get 12x without shaky footage, then look at the Atera II 12×30 with image stabilization.
