If you are looking for a gift that stands out in a workroom and also explains something about the sky, a large astrolabe is a good candidate. For centuries, astronomers used an astrolabe to determine the position of the sun and stars. It is a flat model of the sky: you turn the star map, the rete, over the plate with the horizon lines and altitudes and thus determine which stars are above, when the sun rises or what time it is.
This is the large version of the modern astrolabe from Hemisferium. Due to its size, the scale divisions are easy to read. If you prefer something more compact, choose the medium-sized modern astrolabe.
If you really want to work on it, take the time to read up and put a planisfer of the Dutch starry sky next to it to find the stars outside. A visit to one of the Astronomers in the Netherlands is then a logical next step.
