How high is the sun or a star above the horizon? Centuries ago, one could measure that with a quadrant. The Beringer quadrant is an instrument in the form of a quarter circle. You point the binoculars at a celestial body and read off the degree scale how high it is above the horizon, with a shooting stick indicating the vertical position. With such measurements, one determined the time, measured altitudes or searched for latitude.
This version of Hemisferium is a replica based on historical examples and is intended primarily as a decorative and educational object for those who are interested in astronomy and ancient instruments. Other quadrants in this series are: Gunter's quadrant and the Cappuccino quadrant.
Never look through the visor when looking at the sun; let the light fall through the front visor onto the back. If you want to see the sky through a large telescope afterwards, then plan a visit to one of the observatories in the Netherlands. Public astronomical observatories in the Netherlands.
