The G3M678C has the Sony IMX678, a STARVIS 2 1/1.8-inch sensor with 3840 x 2160 pixels at 2.0 micrometers. With USB 3.0 and 512 MB DDR3 buffer, you get high image speeds; with a small crop (ROI), that increases to over 1500 images per second.
The sensor is sensitive in the near-infrared. With an IR pass filter of 850 nm or a methane filter of 890 nm, you can get more detail from Jupiter and Saturn, and infrared is less affected by turbulent air. There is no amplifier glow, so short deep-sky shots are also possible.
The camera has a C-mount connection and comes with a 1.25 inch adapter. Filters of 1.25 inch fit with the adapter.
The camera works with ToupSky, SharpCap, FireCapture and N.I.N.A. Note: The ZWO ASIAIR only supports ZWO cameras; with the ToupTek StellaVita you can still work wirelessly.
Who is this camera for?
Hello Anyone who wants to photograph the moon, the sun (with a good solar filter) and planets with a telescope from around f/10.
Not Those who want to take long deep-sky exposures; for that, a cooled camera like the ATR585C is better.
Featured accessories
- A Barlow lens to get from f/15 to f/20 with shorter telescopes
- ToupTek AFW-mini with LRGB filter set for those who later switch to mono
