A pair of binoculars is sometimes more than you want to carry on a long hike. A monocular 12×50 is actually a half-binoculars: you look through one eye, so you only have one viewer with you. This Buki Expert magnifies twelve times with a 50 mm lens.
You use it for birds, ships and details in the landscape, just like the viewers at our festival do. Hiking and travel enthusiasts. The exit pupil is 50 divided by 12, approximately 4.2 mm, so even with less light the image remains reasonably clear.
Twelfth-scale magnification from a distance is difficult to keep steady. Lean against a tree or fence, or place the monocular on a tripod if it has a mount for it. Never look at the sun with a monocular.
For children who want to see with both eyes, there is the Buki Expert children's binoculars. A monocular with less magnification is The Bushnell Legend 10×42 monocular.
