Sky-Watcher Skyliner-400P FlexTube SynScan GoTo: The 16-inch Observatory with Autopilot
This configuration pairs the 406 mm mirror (f/4.4) with SynScan GoTo: automatically locate and track 42,900 objects, with dual encoders for manual movement at any time. With a mirror that captures over two and a half times more light than a 10-inch, this isn't a gadget: the computer unlocks the faint objects for which this aperture is made.

What can you see through the 400P GoTo?
Dark matter tracks in Andromeda, filaments in Orion, subtle structure in globular clusters, and planetary detail that, on clear nights, borders on the visually impossible. With automatic tracking, any target remains steady at high magnification, ideal for long sessions and for guiding guests.
Ready for short recordings
The 2-inch focuser with T2 mount allows you to directly connect a camera for short lunar and planetary shots. For visual work, the included adapters accept any standard eyepiece.
This is how to get the most out of this telescope
- To them, in part: Disassemble the equatorial mount and motorized rocker box separately, preferably with two people. Plan the route to your observing location on it.
- Close the open section: A light shroud around the extended truss keeps stray light and dew out. The standard upgrade for FlexTube models.
- Allow for at least an hour to cool down For the large mirror, especially in winter.
- Collimation at f/4.4 is a fixed ritual on transport; our guide to collimation It takes two minutes.
- Use a power tank: The GoTo motors run on 12V and cold nights drain battery capacity. An external battery will keep it going all night.
For whom yes and for whom no
Hello The observer who wants the ultimate visual instrument and has the logistics in order: fixed location, help with lifting, power supply arranged.
Not When in doubt about size, any smaller Skyliner is the wiser choice. Long exposures belong with the smart telescopes; Short camera recordings via T2 are a strong side effect here.
Featured accessories
These accessories add the most after purchase:
- Moon Filter 13%: With this mirror size, the moon is blindingly bright. The Omegon Moon Filter 13% (1.25 inches) dims the light and increases the contrast. More explanation is in our Moon filter guide.
- Cheshire eyepiece the Sky-Watcher Cheshire Eyepiece Aligning the mirrors is more accurate than the included tools. With these fast opening ratios, it's not a luxury but a essential piece.
