Large H-alpha field of view for photography with maximum detail reproduction
The Lunt LS80MT ST 80/560 Ha B1200 is designed for serious solar photographers and advanced observers who need both high resolution and a wider field of view. The B1800 block filter gives you significantly more margin at large camera sensors, binoviewers and higher magnifications, without vignetting or image compression. The result: more stable, wider and sharply delineated H-alpha structures.
The combination of an 80 mm aperture and the obstruction-free design yields visibly more fine structure than smaller H-alpha telescopes. Filaments, prominences and spicule fields show nuances that are more subtle or less defined in 60 mm models.

Modular system: H-alpha by day, ED-apo by night
Lunt's MT platform is known for its flexibility. Removing the H-alpha etalon module transforms the telescope into a high-performance 80 mm ED doublet (FPL-51) with FMC coating. That gives you a fully functioning night refractor for moon, planets and bright deep-sky objects - without having to own two telescopes.
In H-alpha mode, the telescope remains very compact (500 mm transport length), but with a robust build quality perfectly suited to serious photography setups.

GB1800 block filter: ideal for large sensors and professional setups
The difference between the B1200 and B1800 is huge for photographers. The B1800 gives:
- more field of view
- less risk of vignetting
- Better performance with APS-C and larger sensors
- more comfort when using bino viewers
- broader fine-tuning in prominence photography
This makes the LS80MT B1800 version the preferred choice for astrophotographers who want maximum flexibility.

Accurate Rack & Pinion focuser with 1:10 fine adjustment
The 2-inch Rack & Pinion focuser with 1:10 reduction offers mechanical stability and precision - crucial when working with heavy cameras, barlows or binoviewers. Even at high magnification, focusing remains controlled and shock-free.
The telescope comes complete with handle, tube rings and a sturdy transport case, suitable for safe transportation and mounting on any Vixen-style dovetail.

What we recommend (including what you can see with it)
With the Lunt LS80MT B1800 you can count on:
- ✓ wide and stable H-alpha image without vignetting
- ✓ prominences with layered structure and fine edge details
- ✓ filaments, plages, spicolevels and active regions in high resolution
- ✓ optimal use with larger cameras (APS-C, IMX183, IMX571 etc.)
- ✓ deployment as ED-apo for moon, planets and bright nebulae (with night module)
- ✓ suitable for advanced sun photographers and users who want maximum freedom in field of view
For beginners, the LS80MT is too advanced; for advanced users, this is one of the most versatile H-alpha systems in its class.
