Sky-Watcher Heritage-114P Virtuoso: compact with automatic tracking
The Sky-Watcher Heritage-114P Virtuoso is a tabletop Dobsonian telescope with a 114mm parabolic mirror and a short focal length of 500mm (f/4.4). The Virtuoso mount automatically tracks objects once they are in view: no GoTo, but motorized tracking. With a total weight of 5.3 kg, it is one of the lightest tracking telescopes in our collection. Dobson assortment.

What do you see through the Heritage 114P?
The Moon shows sharp craters and shadows, Jupiter its moons and cloud bands, Saturn its rings. The wide field of view of the short focal length makes finding targets easy and allows for extensive targets like the Pleiades and the Orion Nebula to fit completely in the field of view. The parabolic mirror keeps stars sharp far into the field, unlike cheaper Newtonian reflector entry-level models.
Follow without hassle
Once aligned, the motorized mount keeps the object in view, even at higher magnifications. Thanks to Freedom Find, you can manually move the tube in between without losing orientation. Later expansion is possible: the mount accepts a SynScan GoTo hand controller. The tube is attached to a Vixen-style clamp with an L-bracket, so it also fits on other mounts.
This is how to get the most out of this telescope
- Sturdy table or stool required: The following only works well on a vibration-free surface.
- Take power with you The tracking motor runs on batteries or an external power supply; a power bank prevents surprises.
- Collimation is critical at f/4.4. Check after transport; see our guide on collimation.
- Magnification: the 10 mm eyepiece gives 50x; a 6 mm planetary eyepiece (83x) gets more out of the moon and planets. Around 100x, it practically stops at this size.
