iOptron HAZ46 Alt-AZ Strain Wave Mount: GoTo power for the larger tube

The iOptron HAZ46 carries 20.8 kg (46 lbs) without a counterweight: enough for a large catadioptric tube or large refractor, in an alt-azimuth mount that can be used immediately without polar alignment.

The strain wave drive keeps the head compact and lightweight; the GPS and WiFi make setup and operation fast and wireless.

Strain wave without polar alignment

The strain wave gears deliver a high torque without backlash and without a counterweight. Furthermore, as a pure alt-azimuth mount, polar alignment is eliminated: set it up, align on one or two stars, and observe.

The friction brake safely stops the mount in the event of a power failure, and the power-down memory preserves the alignment for the next session.

Large optics, small setup ritual

While an equatorial mount in this class requires counterweights and polar alignment, the HAZ46 is ready in minutes. For visual nights with a large OTA, that is the difference between going outside or staying in.

Operate with the Go2Nova hand controller or via WiFi with SkySafari and iOptron Commander; computer control is available via USB.
