Amici prism 45° 1.25"

The Amici 45° 1.25" prism is a diagonal prism that not only inverts your telescope’s image but also corrects it, giving you a true-to-life, upright, and left-right-corrected image. This makes this accessory ideal for daytime use: birdwatching, tracking ships at sea, or viewing landscapes in detail.

Whereas a standard star diagonal right-ups the image but leaves it inverted, an Amici prism provides the correct orientation. Thanks to the 45° viewing angle, you can observe comfortably without straining your neck. The 1.25" connection ensures that the prism fits virtually all standard refractors, Maksutovs, and Schmidt-Cassegrains.

For astronomical use at high magnifications, an Amici prism is less suitable because the prism edge can sometimes cause diffraction spikes on bright stars. For lunar and planetary observations, it is better to use a regular star diagonal. But for terrestrial applications, this prism actually provides the most natural viewing experience.

Observation goals

Use this Amici prism mainly for nature observation, bird watching and navigation. For stargazing, you can use it at low magnifications, for example to view the moon or star fields with an upright view. For serious deep-sky and planetary observations, a standard diagonal remains the better choice.
