Bresser 20x80 Binoculars Spezial Astro: high-intensity astro binoculars for moon and star fields

The Bresser Spezial-Astro 20×80 is built for the night sky. Its two 80 mm (3.1 inch) objective lenses gather a large amount of light together, allowing you to see star clusters, bright nebulae, and the structure of the Milky Way that remain invisible with a standard binoculars. With 20x magnification, the craters of the moon fill your view.

This classic from the Spezial-Astro series can also be used during the day for long-distance landscape observation. It definitely falls into the tripod class: at 20x magnification and a weight of well over 2 kg, viewing is most comfortable from a sturdy photography tripod.

Lots of light, lots of detail

The prisms are made of BaK-4 glass and all lens and glass surfaces have a full multi-layer coating. That means maximum light transmission and low stray light: stars remain pinpoint-sharp and the contrast on the edge of the moon is high.

With an exit pupil of 4 mm and a twilight factor of 40, this binoculars is made for twilight and night. The field of view of 56 m at 1000 m is wide enough to capture large star clusters such as the Pleiades in a single view.

Tripod thread in the center column

A tripod thread is located in the extended central axis. With a separate tripod adapter, you can mount the viewer on any photo tripod for a vibration-free image. The adapter is not included, so be sure to order one right away if you want to do serious viewing.

Handheld viewing works for short moments, but at 20x magnification, every tremor is visible in the image. A tripod makes the difference between a quick glance and true observation.

Comfortable focusing, even with glasses

You focus with a central focusing wheel and correct the difference between your eyes with the diopter adjustment on the right eyepiece. The interpupillary distance is adjustable from 57 to 72 mm.

You fold down the rubber eyecups if you wear glasses. This way, you maintain the full field of view even with glasses.

Sturdily built, but keep it dry

The aluminum housing has a rubber coating that can withstand knocks and provides a comfortable grip in the cold. The binocular is not waterproof and not gas-filled: let it dry after a humid night with lens caps open before storing it in the bag.

Featured accessories

A sturdy photo tripod with a center column tripod adapter is the first thing you will want to add: only then will you get the most out of the 20x magnification. If you want to photograph the moon, the Bresser universal smartphone adapter fits onto the eyepieces of this spotting scope.

For whom yes and for whom no

  • ✓ Star clusters, bright nebulae, and Milky Way fields from a tripod
  • Detailed lunar observation
  • ✓ Long-range landscape observation
  • ✗ Long-term out of hand: 20x and 2.1 kg are too much for that
  • ✗ Close-up viewing: focusing is only possible from several tens of meters away
  • ✗ Do not use in rain: the viewer is not waterproof
