iOptron CEM120EC2 with Dual High Precision Encoders: dual encoders for the demanding observatory
The iOptron CEM120 is a center-balanced equatorial GoTo mount for the heaviest amateur setups: 52 kg (115 lbs) payload capacity, excluding counterweights, with a head weight of 26 kg (57 lbs). Designed for observatories and permanent setups with large optics and complete imaging systems.
The EC2 features high-resolution encoders on both axes. Using advanced sky modeling, the mount corrects not only the periodic error in real time, but also residual polar alignment errors and atmospheric refraction.
Fixed home sensors on both axes preserve the alignment model after shutdown, allowing subsequent nights to start immediately.

Real-time correction on both axes
For long unattended photo sessions with large focal lengths, this is the most accurate mount in the iOptron lineup. Autoguiding can be completely omitted in most configurations.
The alignment model with home sensors makes the EC2 ideally suited for remote and robotic observatories.

Heavy mechanics, fine tracking behavior
Machining 80 mm thick shafts on 125 mm bearings; the 216 mm worm wheels with 360 teeth and a worm period of 240 seconds provide tracking performance with a periodic error of under plus or minus 3.5 arcseconds.
The spring-loaded Losmandy saddle and the adjustable counterweight shaft (usable down to the equator) make the mount suitable for virtually any large OTA. The head is supplied without a tripod; the Tri-Pier with adapter or a permanent pier is the suitable base.

Observatory class control
The Go2Nova 8407 V2 hand controller with display heating contains over 200,000 objects. GPS, WiFi, and a LAN connection are built-in, so the mount fits directly into any observatory network.
Autoguiding is possible via the ST-4 port; the extensive multi-port cable management also keeps dual photography setups tidy.
Included
- CEM120EC2 mount with encoders on both axes and home sensors
- Go2Nova 8407 V2 hand controller with display heating
- Two 10 kg counterweights with counterweight bar
- Network adapters and cables
Featured accessories
Combine the head with the 230 mm Tri-Pier adapter and the iPolar for the CEM120 for electronic polar alignment.
For whom yes and for whom no
- ✓ Observatory builders and owners of large catadioptric telescopes or dual-camera setups
- ✓ If you want to control a fixed setup up to 52 kg via a network
- ✓ Robotic and remote observatories
- ✗ Mobile observers: a CEM70 or smaller is then more practical
