The compact classic: orange tube, maximum simplicity
The Celestron NexStar 4 SE is the smallest and fastest to set up telescope from the iconic SE series. The orange optical tube pays homage to the classic Celestrons of the 1970s, while the technology is completely modern: 102 mm Maksutov-Cassegrain optics with XLT coatings on a computerized GoTo fork mount. With SkyAlign, you align on any three bright objects, after which the hand controller navigates you to thousands of targets.
Maksutov optics: sharp and high-contrast on the Moon and planets
The 102 mm aperture and 1325 mm focal length (f/13) are made for detailed work. Lunar craters, Saturn's rings, and Jupiter's cloud belts show high contrast, and the closed tube design keeps dust and air currents out. The XLT coating increases light transmission around the crucial 500 nm wavelength region by up to 10 percent. Practically usable magnification is up to about 204x.
Travel Pro pre-assembly: set up in minutes
The complete set is lightweight and fits in a single carry bag: tripod, fork mount, and optical tube are ready in minutes. The mount automatically tracks any selected object. Furthermore, a built-in flip-mirror enables photography through the rear of the tube without removing the star diagonal.
For whom yes, for whom no
Who: the traveler and balcony observer seeking maximum simplicity with an emphasis on the Moon and planets. Not: those who mainly want to see faint deep-sky objects; in that case, choose the 6SE or 8SE with larger aperture. Compare the SE family on the product page of the NexStar SE series.
