Omegon Camera veLOX 224 C Color: compact planetary camera with 150 frames per second
The Sony IMX224 in this camera is known for its low-light sensitivity. With 3.8-micrometer pixels, it captures more light per pixel than fine-grained sensors, which keeps the exposure time short for planets.
At full resolution, the camera delivers 150 frames per second. For lucky imaging, that is a comfortable margin: you collect enough frames in a short time to be able to select strictly.
Sensor and image
The 1/3-inch sensor measures 4.8 by 3.6 mm and has 1280 x 960 pixels. The readout is performed at 12-bit via USB 3.0.
The relatively large pixels are well suited for telescopes with a short to medium focal length, possibly in combination with a barlow.
Planets, Moon and Sun
You capture Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars in short video sequences that you then stack. The same method works for the Moon, with more emphasis on focusing.
Solar photography always requires a solar filter in front of the telescope aperture.
Autoguiding with an ST4 port
The camera has a built-in ST4 port. You connect it directly to the autoguider port of your mount and correct tracking during long exposures. The sensitivity also makes the camera suitable as an autoguider behind a guidescope.
PHD2 recognizes the camera natively. It also works with N.I.N.A., SharpCap, and similar programs via the ASCOM and INDI drivers.
Connect to your telescope
The housing has the shape and diameter of a 1.25-inch eyepiece. So you can slide the camera into almost any focuser. The flange distance is 12.5 mm; with the included extension tube, it becomes 17.5 mm.
The housing is shaped like a 1.25-inch eyepiece with C- and CS-mount threads. Small CCTV lenses fit directly onto it.
