The orthoscopic eyepiece design has been around since the nineteenth century and is still used for a simple reason: few lens elements mean little light loss and maximum contrast. The Baader Classic Ortho series combines this classic design with modern multi-layer coatings.

You choose a Classic Ortho if sharpness is more important than a wide field of view. When observing the moon, planets, and double stars, every detail counts, and that is precisely where these eyepieces excel.

Three focal lengths

The series is available in 6 mm, 10 mm and 18 mm. The 18 mm is a fine wide-field eyepiece for the moon, the 10 mm an all-rounder for planets, and the 6 mm gets the maximum out of your telescope under good seeing conditions. All three have an apparent field of view of 52 degrees.

Simplicity as power

The four-element design provides neutral color reproduction and a dark sky background. The eyepieces are light and compact, so the balance of small telescopes is not disturbed. The barrel is 1.25 inches (31.75 mm) with a standard filter thread.

Featured accessories

Combine a Classic Ortho with a Baader Barlow lens to get extra magnifications from the same eyepieces. A moon filter subdues the bright moonlight at low magnification.
