Many lenses and optical systems allow infrared light to pass through while it is not focused on the same focal plane as visible light. The result: blur, color cast or loss of detail.
With this filter, all light above about 700 nanometers - the infrared spectrum - is actively blocked. This provides a sharper image and prevents chromatic distortion or halo effects around bright stars. Especially in astrophotography with color cameras without built-in IR-cut, this filter is essential. Visual observation with APO refractors or ED lenses can also improve the image by reducing color errors.
The filter fits any 1.25″ eyepiece, camera adapter or filter wheel. The glass is multi-coated and carefully ground for minimal reflections and maximum transmission of visible light.
