Sky-Watcher NEQ-5 Mount provides a solid base for medium-sized telescopes and is suitable for both visual observation and the first steps in astrophotography. With a maximum carrying capacity of 10 kg, this mount can carry instruments up to about 200 mm aperture, such as an apochromatic refractor or a Newton.
The parallactic construction allows easy tracking of celestial objects after the mount is aligned to the Pole Star. This is done via the included polar finder and fine adjustment on the RA and DEC axes. The sturdy gears and worm wheels ensure smooth movements, while the counterweights make the balance accurately adjustable.
The NEQ-5 can easily be expanded with a motor kit or a complete GoTo upgrade, which also enables astrophotography with longer exposure times. This makes it an excellent choice for those making the transition from purely visual to photographing the moon, planets and deep-sky objects.
Application
The Sky-Watcher NEQ-5 Mount is suitable for visual observation with medium-sized telescopes (up to about 200 mm aperture) and is an entry-level astrophotography mount. For heavy camera setups and long exposures, a heavier mount such as the HEQ5 or EQ6-R is recommended.
