Omegon OIII nebula filter 2 inch is a highly selective narrow-band filter that passes only the light of doubly ionized oxygen (OIII) - exactly the emission lines around 496 and 501 nanometers. These specific wavelengths are dominant in many planetary nebulae and supernova remnants, so this filter makes such objects spectacularly more visible.
All other wavelengths - including those from streetlights, moonlight and even many starlight - are actively blocked. As a result, the background sky becomes extremely dark and nebular structures light up brightly. Think of fine filaments in the Veil Nebula or the complex edges of the Helix Nebula. Even under light pollution, you can see details that remain invisible without a filter.
The 2″ design makes the filter ideal for use with larger eyepieces or in a filter wheel for visual applications. Thanks to the robust aluminum mount with fine threads and high-quality multiple coating, this is a top-notch optical filter built for long and intensive use.
Advantages
✓ Maximum contrast enhancement in emission nebulae
✓ Filters only OIII light - everything beyond that is blocked
✓ Perfect for larger telescopes (150 mm and up)
✓ 2″ version - suitable for wide-angle eyepieces and filter wheels
✓ Extremely effective under light pollution as well as in dark locations
Specifications
- Type: OIII filter (narrowband)
- Connection: 2 inches (50.8 mm)
- Mounting: Aluminum, black anodized
- Coating: Multiple anti-reflective
- Transmission band: 496-501 nm (OIII)
- Application: Visual deep-sky observation of emission nebulae
- Not suitable for: Broadband applications or planetary observation
Application
The Omegon OIII Nebula Filter 2″ is ideal for deep-sky enthusiasts with a larger telescope who want to study emission nebulae in detail. Objects such as the Ring Nebula, Veil Nebula and Dumbbell Nebula visibly gain structure. Its 2″ size makes it perfect for combining with wide-angle eyepieces or as part of an advanced visual observing kit.
