Baader BDSF Digital Solar Filter 80 mm

The Baader BDSF Digital Solar Filter 80 mm is a high-quality solar filter designed specifically for digital photography and video capture of the sun. The filter reduces sunlight to safe and precise levels, allowing you to capture sharp, high-contrast images of sunspots, faculae and the edge of the solar disk with a camera or smartphone.

Unlike standard visual sunscreens, the BDSF version (Baader Digital Solar Filter). designed with a lower transmission, optimized for camera sensors. This prevents overexposure and allows short shutter speeds without loss of sharpness. The filter film is based on Baader's renowned AstroSolar Safety Film, but with a modified density for digital sensors. The result: neutrally colored sun images with no color cast or loss of detail.

The sturdy aluminum filter holder securely encloses the optics without pressure on the lens tube, while soft clamping feet ensure a secure fit. The filter surface is flat and stress-free, preserving the optical quality of your telescope. The BDSF 80 mm fits telescopes or camera lenses with an outer diameter between approximately 80 and 110 mm (depending on model variant).

Application
The Baader BDSF 80 mm is intended for photographic and digital observation of the sun, not for direct visual use with the naked eye or eyepieces. Suitable for:

• DSLR and system cameras with telephoto lenses
• Planetary cameras (e.g. ZWO ASI series)
• Small telescopes or lenses up to about 80 mm aperture

What you can photograph with it:

• Sunspots and penumbra with sharp detail
• Brightness differences between granules on the solar surface
• The solar edge (limb) with light faculae

Always use a filter of this type in front of the objective lens - never at the back of the optical path.
