Stargazing Buyer’s Guide
In our stargazing buyer’s guide, we’ll guide you step by step to find the right telescope. Based on your preferences – from planetary details to deep-sky – we’ll show you the models that best match your needs.
How to choose the right magnification? We’ll explain which combination of telescope and eyepiece you need. Use this formula:
Magnification = telescope focal length ÷ eyepiece focal length
However: more isn’t always better. Higher magnification makes the image darker and more sensitive to vibrations. A well-balanced combination – for example, a 70 mm aperture with a 10 mm eyepiece for 70x magnification – often produces the best image.
