How Does a Lunar Eclipse Occur?
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is positioned exactly between the sun and the moon, causing the moon to enter Earth’s core shadow (umbra). This means that sunlight doesn’t directly reach the moon.

The first total lunar eclipse of 2025 occurs on the night of March 13-14. This is the first blood moon since 2022 and will be best visible in North and South America.

- Partial phase: 1:09 a.m. (March 14)
- Totality: 2:26 a.m. – 3:31 a.m.
- End of partial phase: 4:47 a.m.

- The eclipse begins at 03:57 GMT, but the peak occurs just after sunrise, making only part of it visible.

The September 2025 Blood Moon – Asia and Europe in the Spotlight
The second total lunar eclipse of 2025 occurs on the night of September 7-8. This time, the blood moon will be best visible in Asia and Europe.
🌍 In Europe, the moon will rise during totality, providing a breathtaking view with an orange-red glow due to atmospheric refraction.
